Li Ning – Artist Biography
Before emigrating to Canada in 2003, Ning Li successfully managed business enterprises and a dance arts school in China for many years.
In 2008, she established the East-West Arts and Cultural Exchange Promotion Centre in Canada, which has been invited to and actively participates in numerous arts and cultural exchange programs between the East and the West.
She has extensive experience in international project curation, having initiated and participated in artist exchange and exhibition projects between Canada and China in 2012 and 2025, as well as developing exhibition projects across Canada, China, and Europe.
Ning Li is also a contemporary artist working with photography, whose practice unfolds between close observation and bodily action, transforming ink, fire, and light into painterly images through a mobile device.

宁莉,2003年移民温哥华前,在中国成功经营企业及舞蹈艺术学校多年。
2008年创办加拿大东西方艺术文化交流促进协会(East-West Arts and Cultural Exchange Promotion Centre in Canada),并应邀积极参与众多中西方艺术文化交流活动。
她具有国际项目策划经验,曾发起并参与2012年、2025年的加拿大与中国艺术家交流展览,以及推动加中欧多地展览项目。
宁莉同时是一位以摄影为媒介的当代艺术家,其创作在微观凝视与身体行动之间展开,通过手机将墨、火与光转化为具有绘画性的影像生成。
Li Ning uses a photography method she calls “Ning Gaze,” which combines close-up observation with physical movement.

Ink Series: Using mobile macro photography, she captures the detailed textures and structures formed by ink over time.

Fire and Light Series: She treats her phone like a brush, capturing the movement of fire and light as she moves and dances with the device.
Instead of just showing an object, her work records the actual process of looking and moving.
宁莉的作品围绕“宁眼相看”展开,这是一种在微观凝视与身体行动之间生成影像的创作方法。
在“墨汁”系列中,她通过手机微距进入物质内部,在流动与沉淀中观察时间与结构的形成。
在“火焰”与“光”系列中,她将手机视为“笔”,在身体与舞动中记录火与光的轨迹,使影像成为动作的痕迹与能量的呈现。
因此,她的作品并非对对象的再现,而是在观看与行动之间生成的感知过程。
Ning Gaze – Online Exhibition
Li NING (宁莉)is a Vancouver-based cross-disciplinary artist. Her multicultural background lends a unique, “boundary less” perspective to her creations. Oscillating between figuration and abstraction, her work transcends mere documentation; it is an emotional projection onto nature. Through the “Ning Gaze,” she explores the very process of seeing—where attention, time, and material behavior intersect.
This online exhibition Ning Gaze at Lipont Gallery features three distinct series:
Ink: The sedimentation of time and tranquil flow.
Fire: Explosive energy and irreversible change.
Light: The dissolution of matter and the expansion of perception.
Acclaimed by international collectors, Ning Li’s Ning Gaze series is now showing at lipontgallery.ca.
Each work is a limited edition of 10, featured on contemporary, borderless metal plates.
Looking ahead to May 2026, her work will debut at Galerie KiA Contemporary in Germany, marking a new international chapter.

Artistic Background / 作品背景
Ning Li’s “Ink, Fire, and Light” series began during the 2020 lockdowns.
While practicing daily calligraphy at home, she noticed the beautiful, complex textures of the ink in her inkstones through her phone camera. This discovery led to her Ink series. Around the same time, she began experimenting at night by dancing around campfires, using her phone to capture the moving trails of fire and light, which became the Fire and Light series.
These projects launched her “Ning Gaze” collection. Instead of traditional photography, she uses mobile devices to turn ink and light into painterly images through close-up observation and physical movement. Her work is a record of both what she sees and the personal, meditative process of creating it.
宁莉的“墨汁、火焰与光”系列始于2020年疫情期间。
当时她每天在家抄写《心经》,在这一日常习惯中,她偶然发现手机镜头下的墨盘和墨池呈现出非常奇妙的纹理,于是开始了“墨汁”系列的创作。与此同时,她尝试在夜晚对着篝火随意舞动,用手机记录下火光移动的轨迹,从而创作了“火焰”与“光”系列。
这些作品构成了她的“宁眼相看(Ning Gaze)”系列。她不再只是简单地拍照,而是通过近距离观察和身体的舞动,用手机将墨水和火光变成了像画作一样的影像。这些作品不仅记录了她的观察,也记录了她当时祈福的心境和个人的视觉探索。
