Quinton Qiu – Biography
Quinton Qiu (邱德憙) is a Vancouver-based Cantonese artist who investigates the fundamental cause of social phenomena in the greater context of the capitalistic, post-colonial era. Qiu mainly uses performances and installations. His work provides a lens for social reconsideration through the embodiment of hypothetical figures, recontextualizes them into a gallery context, and creates a conversation between the figures and the space. These techniques support discussions for critiquing forces of existing hegemonies in society, by exploring signifiers from everyday encounters.

邱德憙是一位居住在温哥华的粤语艺术家。他在资本主义、后殖民时代的大背景下研究众多社会现象的根本原因。 邱主要运用表演和装置。 他的作品通过假设人物的体现，为社会重新思考提供了一个镜头，然后将它们重新融入画廊环境中，并在人物和空间之间创造了对话。 这些技巧通过探索日常中的遭遇，提供批判社会中现有霸权力量的讨论。
Quinton Qiu – Artist Statement
Qiu values his individualistic emotions and opinions while interacting with systems, languages and symbols. Each of them holds great power that affects the way we interact and perceive the world, from different social-cultural backgrounds. He investigates how the ways that tools to perceive the world are shaped under power, authorities or institutes, and brings this conversation into an art context for viewers to reflect.
“I am attending Art Student with passion and experience working and volunteering in the local art community. I have worked as a gallery assistant as well as an artist assistant during my academic journey. I developed a strong interest in the concepts and philosophies behind artworks. I also do photography for galleries, organizations, or individuals for both personal and commercial uses.”
