À la Diable is a reference to a French cooking technique that makes use of spicy peppers. Here, Friariello peppers, or feferoni (Capsicum frutescens) are used to create the 15th tarot card, The Devil. In places like southern Italy, these peppers are used as amulets to protect against negative forces—otherworldly or human. They are also symbols of virility.
