Statement: Created under the anxiety of living through a pandemic and with renewed urgency from witnessing (and involuntarily participating in) the continued exploitation of the planet, Make Oneself at Home 2.0 is a self portrait series that investigates selfhood within a consumer society in a diasporic context. By juxtaposing my obscured self and provisional displays of accumulated possessions or evidence of consumption in constructed scenes within my compacted living spaces, this series explores the intricate relationships between belonging and possessions, identity construction and lifestyle politics, and the permeating boundary between the domestic and the public. An attempt to subvert the medium of advertising photography as a means to promote consumption and boosting profit, Make Oneself at Home 2.0 invites the viewer to reflect on the underlying implications of capitalist consumer culture.

《请⾃便 2.0》 是我在温哥华新冠疫情居家隔离期间创作的⼀组审视⾃⾝⽣活⽅式的⾃画像摄影作品。其中伴随的是⽬睹且不情愿地参与对地球环境持续剥削⽽产⽣的焦虑与紧迫感，同时思考作为华⼈移民如何在消费社会中寻求⾝份认同。我在逼仄的⽣活空间中⽤各种⽇常消费产⽣的包装、多年累积的⾐物以及隔离期间尤显珍贵的家居绿植构建了三处临时场景，再将⾃⼰的⾝体隐匿于其中，使消费主体和各种消费证据以及被珍视的财产同框；旨在探讨归属感与财产、⾝份认同与⽣活⽅式之间的关系，以及个⼈与⽂化、隐私与公共、有意识和⽆意识之间的边界。《请⾃便 2.0》试图颠覆商业产品摄影作为促进消费和增加利润的媒介属性，以幽默讽刺的⽅式反思资本主义消费⽂化的潜在含义。本作品是该系列中的⼀幅。
