Statement: Dealing with the relationship between the cultural and the personal, and the idea of lifestyle politics, HOLIDAY selfie portrays partly fictional, partly autobiographical narratives that question the pervasive and compulsory material expressions around global holidays. It reflects on the role of celebration in contemporary social life by highlighting the ambivalence stemming from the anxiety of collective holiday profligacy and the comforting familiarity of (cultural) holiday celebration; and from the lack of capability of participation and the resulting isolation. By photographing myself in solitude surrounded by objects associated with (cultural) celebrations, I want to evoke a dissonance around the ostensibly cherished occasions, where many universalized and commercialized contemporary manifestations of cultural celebrations have deviated from their origins, even posing a potential to marginalize those who either choose not to or lack the means to engage in the same festive sentiment.

《节假⽇⾃拍》描绘了⼀系列在我个⼈经历基础上虚构的故事场景，对全球化进程下和社交媒体时代过度趋同、过度商业化的节假⽇活动和庆祝模式提出质疑。这组作品的创作背景是2021年底与2022年初因疫情⽽异常冷清的圣诞节和春节，这促使我开始研究“节⽇”这个蕴含了⽂化、宗教、政治、经济等众多因素的概念。作品中，我在逼仄的温哥华公寓空间内的各个区域摆放了各种带有中西节⽇⽂化符号的物品，再在这些空间⾥通过想象⾃⼰的节假⽇⽣活拍摄了⼀系列⾃画像摄影作品。这其中包括我在国内不曾听说却在北美屡见不鲜、被认为代表中国⽂化的“幸运饼⼲”。通过反思当下充斥着物质表达的节假⽇活动与⽂化传统，我希望探索个⼈与其存在的⽂化之间的关系以及在社交媒体时代被商业化、话题化的“⽣活⽅式”这⼀概念。同时这组作品也表达了因节假⽇社交焦虑、挥霍焦虑，但远离商业节⽇氛围后却产⽣与社会的疏离感这两种⽭盾情绪共存的状态。

节假⽇通常是⽂化、民族、国家、社区、家庭庆祝各种传统的时刻，⼈们享受庆典的同时鲜少反思其背后的宗教、政治、商业动机；对许多传统节⽇的认知与庆祝形式也早已偏离了其⽂化起源。同时⼀些没有条件参与或选择不参与此类庆祝场合的弱势群体（如独居⽼⼈、低收⼊群体）也容易在此时单⼀的欢乐氛围⾥被进⼀步边缘化。创作这组作品时正值我⾃⼰经历⼀场健康危机，同时加拿⼤卑诗省养⽼院内众多⽼⼈因新冠疫情死去的新闻沸沸扬扬。我平时的⼯作之⼀是组织温哥华东区低收⼊中国⽼⼈打理⾃⼰的菜园，因此看到新闻后尤为感慨，希望藉该作品唤起⼈们对被边缘化群体的关爱。
