Li Xuan (1941-2011)

Li Xuan was a Chinese famous painter. He was born on July 1, 1941, in Beijing.
His painting mainly blended traditional Eastern ink wash drawing with Western modes of art-making.

In 1956, he was admitted to the central Art Academy in China.
In 1967 – , He worked at Taiyuan daily newspaper. His works include comic books, Chinese paintings, oil paintings, watercolors, sculpture and so on.
In 1986, The artist worked in Taiyuan ancient architecture group.
In 1990, The artist started an art studio of his painting.
In 1996, The artist set up a  gallery of YU ZHI.
In 2010, The artist published his first personal painting album.
In 2011, The artist died in his studio, at the age of 70.

Today his painting are held in various international private and public collections.
Li Xuan started painting at the age of eight. He spent his life exploring how to combine western painting with Chinese painting. Combing the gestural movements of traditional calligraphy with the compositional structure of western abstraction, the work is always telling a story. He expresses his thoughts and feelings through his brush with all his life’s energy and all his wisdom.

李玄 1941- 2011

画家李玄，本名李玉智，祖籍北京，生于1941年7月1日。少年懞懂时期就立志要做达芬奇，他一生与画为伴，他的艺术创作涉及范围极广，国画、油画、水彩画、版画, 雕塑…… 是不可多得的艺术全才。

1960年，被当时美术工厂的总负责人任命为总设计师，并称赞他为“我所见过最有才华的年轻艺术家！”

1964年，他经过自身努力进入太原日报社工作，他的才华得到充分展示。几乎每天的报纸上都刊登着他的作品，有油画，国画，水彩，以及连环画、漫画、雕塑、和各种宣传海报。作品多次获奖，他先后参加过十几次大型展会活动，还有一组表现工人阶级的群塑，成为整个活动中最亮眼的部分，至今还保留着当时照片。

70年代初，进入太原市建工局工作，创办《建工报》。 发表了大量绘画、摄影作品 。

1986年，进入太原市古建队工作。参与设计古建筑与壁画修筑相关工作。改革开放以后，随着收入的提高，他更加勤奋地埋头作画。

1990年李玄先生开创了自己的画室，在随后的20多年，他都沉浸在探究西方和东方艺术的完美融合当中。他将一生的思考与积淀通过绘画展现给世人，在绘画意念和色彩表达上大胆突破，其色彩和光的处理变换莫测，将西方艺术对心灵的探索与东方艺术对意境的追求完美融合在一起，是中西方哲学思想的视觉表现。他的作品既有东方画笔技巧的柔和及透明感，又有⻄方鲜明大胆的色彩运用，历经几十年最终形成了具有世界性的绘画新语境。

同时在这20多年的时间里作品被国内画商多次收藏， 最多的一次，一位画商收藏了将近20件作品。

李玄先生逝世于2011年3月17日。 享年70岁。

2017年李玄先生的女儿李利女士在温哥华推广宣传李玄先生的作品。

2018年4月，李玄先生的作品参加了 ART VANCOUVER (温哥华最大的艺术展览，当年有来自12个国家参展)在位于市中心canada place 举办的大型艺术展览，李玄先生作品引起广泛关注，有两幅作品现场被藏家收藏！。

2018年6月本色画廊联合Art Vancouver 举办联展，李玄先生作品的独特魅力感染着每一位来宾！吸引多位来自中国的高端藏家！同月作品《星空》被藏家收藏。

2018年9月，李玄先生一幅最为珍贵的作品——完成于作者生日当天的作品《苍穹》被藏家收藏，此次收藏引起国内多家媒体关注并转载。

2018年12月，李玄先生个人展与分享讲座，大量新作品在本色展出，无论在华人圈还是当地艺术圈，李玄的画风引起广泛关注，多家媒体报道和转载。

2018年12月，华人收藏家先后收藏李玄先生作品：《生命之初》和《梦之三峡》

2018年12月底，李玄先生个人艺术作品展于本色画廊展出，众多资深藏家对作品的独特艺术语言所震撼。大家都对作品展现的’神“性产生共鸣。

2019年4月，李玄先生的湖之系列作品中最为珍贵的一幅被来自华人收藏家所收藏。

2019年6月31日，李玄先生春季画展在温哥华举办，主办方邀请藏家携作品参展，作品《苍穹》震撼人心。华人主流媒体凤凰卫视全程报道。

2019年7月，李玄先生作品《旷》国内华人藏收藏。

2019年10月，李玄先生作品《旋》温哥华 华人藏家收藏。

2020年4月，作家陈春澜《画家李玄的痴狂人生》发表于中国国家期刊《名作欣赏》于2020年第11期。

With the post-modern process of the world, in the turbulent and staggering evolution of economy and politics, culture and art serve as a reflection, and its appearance presents agitation, fantasy, splendour, frankness, profoundness, beauty… nature is the subject of all these phenomena.

Art is undoubtedly a dialogue between human and the world, and then a dialogue with the universe. Art is also a muse that soothes the soul, blesses the spirit, and inspires mankind to overcome despair and nothingness. The artist, who possesses the ultimate sensitivity and expressive ability, reflects various symptoms of the world in his own creations.

Mr. Li Xuan’s exquisite modern ink painting works brilliantly interpret the above-mentioned perceptions.

The first time I saw Mr. Li Xuan’s ink paintings, I immediately felt a throbbing through my heart! From a lofty perspective, swaying ink and galloping colours between dots and lines, he successfully brings the audience into the ethereal, mysterious, and profound spiritual world. The wilderness is ancient and vast, it is both unfamiliar and familiar; it is a little wary, but it seems to be eager to enter; it is like a nightmare, and it is like a reality that can be grasped in the haze. In the image, the unique comprehension, the single-mindedness of wisdom, and the wandering, contain the rich emotional code of the painter: mysterious, far and wide, ethereal and boundless. Undoubtedly, this is the heartfelt work of an artist who dedicates all his sincerity, effort and soul to the real people!

Mr. Li Xuan is an artist born in the 1940s and is very talented. The trajectory of his life is in harmony with the progress of the Chinese land. This generation has experienced diligence, dedication, hardship, struggle, search, surprise, and struggle as an artist, after experiencing the various plays under the curtain of the times. It is inevitable that in the fusion of the soul, the life and spiritual world of their own experience will be created.

Whether it is a masterpiece or a sketch, Mr. Li Xuan’s modern ink paintings are full of imagery and colour, the narration pouring out, and showing a strong artistic tension. In the mind of the artist, all natural phenomena are not only appearances and colours, but are dynamic and lively!

We can see that Mr. Li Xuan is deeply involved, seeks seclusion the meaning of the unknown, and deeply ties individual life to the cosmos and maximizes life, to be in the same stream. It is a kind of emotional superlative of instant comprehension, a fierce impulse of life, and a flow of life that takes the universe of creation and achieves the turbulent yin and yang in the picture. And in moving and swaying, the ink rhythm returns to the source of life and obtains the settlement of the soul.

On the steamy, ink-coloured, seemingly contradictory picture, if you take a serious look at it, you will realize that this is the world of rational craftsmanship behind Mr. Li Xuan’s logic – wandering from afar, wandering around freely, transporting the world, nurturing the four seas, the good fortune, the source of the heart, the heart of heaven and earth, a willful spirit swaying!

The painter expresses the idea with the image, and through the aesthetic pleasure, he stimulates the body and mind, and the life is agitated by the leisurely speculation, which is spacious and comfortable, from the outside to the inside. All forms of natural movement, with its great charm, attract the artist’s contemplation, and finally become an artistic crystallization. The universe is vast and deep, and individual life is tiny. Artistic creation is just the law of nature, entering the heaven and earth, cooperating with good fortune, and then self-propagating, mind-intelligence fusion, instant transcendence, and immersion in eternity…

The artist has created a real, sincere, and beautiful art that is “in everyone’s heart, but not in everyone’s writing”. In this spiritual realm of art, we can lift our lives and improve our spirituality. With a single leaf boat, we can reach the spiritual shore!

伴随世界的后现代进程，在经济、政治波诡云谲、蹒跚跌宕的演进中，文化艺术作为映射，其面貌所呈现的激越、玄幻、绚丽、率真、沉蕴、唯美……自然便是题中之义。

艺术，无疑是人性与世界的对话，进而是与宇宙的对话。
艺术，也是抚慰心灵，加持精神，激励人类战胜绝望与虚无的缪斯。
而艺术家，正是拥有极致的敏感与表达能力，将世界的种种症状反应在自己的创作中。

李玄先生精绝的现代水墨作品，卓越的诠释了上述的认知。

初见李玄先生的水墨画幅，即有瞬间直贯心灵的悸动！境界超迈、墨色挥洒，点线驰骋之间，画家成功地把受众带入空灵、玄渺、深邃的精神世界。荒荒亘古，浩浩苍冥，既陌生又似乎熟悉；既有些许戒备，又似乎渴望进入；既像是梦魇，又像是朦胧中可把握的现实。意象中，独特的思悟，慧心独照，氤氲流荡，蕴含着画家丰沛的情绪密码。玄远旷朗，缥缈无垠。无疑，这是艺术家奉献出全部诚挚、心血、魂灵，给予现实的人们的呕心之作！

李玄先生是为40后一代艺术家，天赋异禀。其生命轨迹与华夏大地的风云进程相谐，这一代人，都经历了勤勉、敬业、拮据、蒙顿、求索、惊觉、拼搏……作为艺术家，在阅历了时代大幕下纷杂的剧目后，必然会在在心灵的融冶中，创造出自身体验的生命与精神世界。

无论是巨制，抑或小品，李玄先生的现代水墨画幅都意象奔涌，墨色喧腾。畅叙、倾泻、昭示着强大的艺术张力。在艺术家的心目里，一切自然现象不仅仅为形貌色彩，实为流转变动的蓬勃生命！

我们可以看到，李玄先生钩沉致远，寻幽求奇，将个体生命深契于宇宙大化生命，从而浩然同流。那是一种瞬间感悟的意绪超升，是激越的生命冲动，是取造化之鸿蒙，成就画幅中阴阳摩荡的生命之流。并在腾挪挥洒，墨韵滔天中返归生命的本源，获得灵魂的安顿。

在氤氲蒸腾、墨色翻飞，看似有悖逻辑的画面上，认真体味，你会领悟到这正是李玄先生逻辑背后的理性意匠世界——神游远观，逍遥周流，运天地，抚四海，师造化，得心源，本乎天地之心，一任性灵挥洒！

画家以象呈意，经由审美愉悦，激发拳拳身心，生命被悠然玄想所激越，旷达畅适，由表及里。一切自然运动形式都以它极大的魅力，吸引着艺术家的沉吟思考，最终凝铸成艺术结晶。宇宙浩瀚渊深，个体生命微渺。艺术创造正是法自然，入天地，合造化，进而天机自张，心慧神融，瞬间超越，纵身于永恒……

画家李玄，原名李玉智。祖籍北京，生于1941年7月1日。一生与画为伴，他早期的艺术创作涉及范围极广，连环画、国画、油画、水彩画、雕塑……是不可多得的艺术全才。

1990年李玄先生开创了自己的画室，潜心研究中国传统与现代绘画，从中外绘画大师的作品中吸取养分，完成了质的蜕变，形成了独树一帜绘画风格。晚年，他沉浸在探究西画和中国画的完美融合当中。在绘画材料上选用宣纸作画; ⽤色丰富:综合材料结合水墨; 用笔更是不拘一格: 毛笔、水彩笔、板刷、喷笔、油画⼑等，画面力求笔墨无痕。他的创作过程中敢于在绘画意念和色彩美学上大胆突破，其色彩层次和光的处理变换莫测，他的作品既有东方画笔技巧的柔和及透明感，又有西方鲜明大胆的色彩运用。他用毕生的精力和全部的智慧通过画笔来表达着他的思想和感情。

纵观他这一生，是用灵魂创作艺术作品的过程，晚年离群索居，直到生命最后一刻被发现于他的画室，享年70岁。那一天是2011年3月17日！

在别人眼里的天分，熟悉他的人看到的是始终如一的勤奋。每一幅作品的背后都有无数张草稿，构图的设想；细节的分析；事物特点的归纳与总结；对世界对人生的思考；对自然的热爱……

例如，李玄先生众多作品中展现石趣的题材很多，也许从一个科学家的角度它是由不同成分组成，而一位艺术家的角度，它是记录生命的载体，它的美在它的形态；在它的纹路；在它的色彩；在它与水的互动、与风对话。李玄先生像科学家一样研究了山与石，他的角度带有造物主的感觉，因此我们能看到那么多经过艺术提炼后带有抽象主义的中国当代作品，

画家李玄的晚年，时而像孩子般开心为我们展示他的新作；时而忧心忡忡谈起新闻中关于环境污染的问题；时而又像一位智者与我们讲对世界对宇宙思考……单纯与复杂就是这样，统一在他这位对艺术倾注一生的老者身上！

画家李玄先生的突然离世，没留下只字片语，却留下了近2000张的作品和手稿，也许他的遗憾是没有人和他分享他在艺术创作过程中的喜悦与满足，本色画廊创建就是承载这样的使命！

2017年李玄女儿在温哥华创建了本色画廊，用于推广李玄先生的作品，画廊于2018年1月在温哥华北岸最为繁华的商业圈开业，开业以来得到专业人士的肯定，作品被众多海外藏家收藏。

如今，李玄先生的作品大部分典藏于本色画廊！

画家李玄的女儿，李女士多年整理画家李玄作品和手稿深有体会的说：“艺术创作的过程是与灵魂对话的过程，脱离自我的概念才能打开边界体会与世界共呼吸的节奏，这也是多年来不断整理李玄作品，手稿和文字的体会。每个人都是一个能量体，无论我们开心，愉悦，满足，难过，失望等等，感受到的其实都是无形能量的波动，那些让我们有美好体验的有形事物，打动我们是它看不见的能量传递，我们始终想通过有形的描诉来解释这种无形的感受，其实没必要，就静静地感受美好就好了，不需要文字不需要讲解，保持真情。” 谈话间让我似乎瞬间悟到：那些传世之作一万种解读和无需解读是一样的。而那些一定要看文字解读才读得懂作品，其实更像文字的附属品。正如抽象艺术大师赵无极先生，从中年开始就不为作品起名字，以创作日期作为作品的名字，也从不解释自己作品的含义，一切交给观者，为的就是不让观众受到作品以外的任何影响。

世界是复杂的，很难用有限的语言解读所有；世界也是单纯的，用真情感悟一切。艺术成为我们解读无形世界的一种可能，也让我们通过读作品读懂自己，读懂世界。

画家李玄离开这个世界10年了，想着点点滴滴的过往，生命在有始有终中轮回，而作品却可以逃离这样的宿命，这也许是人们对艺术作品着迷的原因吧，在艺术中寻找永恒，不仅作者，更多的是观者。画家李玄作品的生命也许才刚刚开始！
