Mike Jin – Artist Biography
Mike Jin is a photographer currently residing in Canada.
He began his career in photojournalism before transitioning to fine art photography, continuously exploring the relationship between “intention” (rational presupposition) and “image” (subconscious projection) in his photographs. His work focuses on the visualization of individual experience, emotional landscapes, and inner poetry, seeking the spiritual order of images between the figurative and the abstract.
His work has been featured in numerous important exhibitions, including:
• 2005 Shanghai Outstanding Historical Building Award
• 2007 Jiangsu Taiyanghu Photography Competition (Multiple Awards)
• 2018 China Online Photography Exhibition (Multiple Awards)
• 2017 International Salon Photography Grand Prix Asia Pacific Cup (Multiple Awards)
He has also received several other professional photography awards.
His current work focuses on the visual construction of “poetic images,” exploring how the subconscious manifests through photography.

Mike Jin – Between Meaning and Image
In Mike Jin’s photographic practice, photography is never a mechanical reproduction of reality, but a spiritual movement unfolding between “meaning” and “image.”
“Meaning”—is the rational structure he developed through years of training in photojournalism: the judgment of light, the control of rhythm, and the precise selection of distance and form. It establishes order in the image and delineates an accessible path into a chaotic world.
“Image”—is the undercurrent of the subconscious, the visual impulse that grows from the pressures of life, personal experiences, and emotional accumulation. It does not obey reason, yet it becomes the soul of the image in an instant.
When the framework of “meaning” and the energy of “image” are juxtaposed, photography gains a power that transcends mere recording.
If there is poetry in the heart, the rhythm of poetry becomes the clue guiding the subconscious; and the subconscious takes shape within the container built by reason, transforming into visual symbols that can be seen, yet still retain a sense of breath.
Therefore, his works are not about “seeing something,” but about allowing the viewer to confront those things “seen by the heart.”
The exhibited works are from his presentations at various film festivals and institutions over the years. His lens traverses cities, rivers, snowfields, and wastelands, as well as memories, emotions, and the self.
These images wander between reality and psychology, with blurriness and clarity, figuration and abstraction overlapping to form his unique visual poetics.
This exhibition aims to demonstrate how the artist uses photography as a “mechanism for projecting the mind,” allowing the subconscious to emerge on the surface of reality and poetry to gain form in the image.
When viewing these works, viewers will also be invited into a slower, more introspective gaze: there, light becomes a thread of thought, image becomes the texture of emotion, and each image simultaneously points to both the external and internal worlds.

在 Mike Jin 的影像实践中,摄影从不是对现实的机械复制,而是一种在“意”与“象”之间展开的精神运动。
“意”——是他在多年新闻摄影训练中形成的理性结构:对光的判断、对节奏的掌控、对距离和形式的精确选择。它为影像建立秩序,也为混沌的世界划定一条可进入的路径。
“象”——则是潜意识的暗流,是在生活压力、个人经验与情绪沉积中生长出的影像冲动。它并不听命于理性,却在瞬间成为画面的灵魂。
当“意”的框架与“象”的能量并置,摄影便获得了超越记录的力量。
心中如果有诗,诗的节奏就成为引导潜意识的线索;而潜意识在理性所搭建的容器中得以成形,转化为可被观看、却仍保留呼吸感的视觉象征。
因此,他的作品并非“看见了什么”,而是让观者直面那些“被心看见”的事物。
展出作品来自他多年来在多个影展与机构中的呈现,其镜头穿越城市、河流、雪地、荒滩,也穿越记忆、情绪与自我。
这些影像在现实与心理之间游走,模糊与清晰、具象与抽象相互交叠,构成了他独有的视觉诗学。
本次展览旨在呈现艺术家如何以摄影作为“心灵投射的机制”,让潜意识在现实表面显影,让诗意在影像中获得形式。
在观看这些作品时,观者也将被邀请进入一种更缓慢、更内向的视线:在那里,光成为意念的线索,影像成为情绪的纹理,而每一幅影像,都同时指向外部世界与内在世界。
