“The painting visualizes the scene described in a Yuan Dynasty (1271 – 1368 A.D.) poem.

“The streams flow and the winds blow through the evergreen pines.
The thin shadows of autumn trees cast on the pebble roads.
There are people looking for peace and tranquility in these forests.
A man is sitting in a small pavilion under a straw roof, waiting for his friend.
The artist knows the landscape so well that he creates spectacular paintings.
I used to ride boats a lot and know how much joy it is to enjoy the landscapes.
However, time is different now and the colour of the landscape is fading.
I regret not being able to live an affluent life at my old age and now I dwell on my memories.
Opening the painting brought me sighs. I will sing loud to drive away the loneliness.””

Artist Jiangang Su interprets ancient Chinese literati’s secluded life described in the poem. The painting also reflects that people are more eager for a life in Xanadu in the current social changes.
