Most of a scholar’s office supplies have the theme of natural insects, fish, birds and beasts, and their liveliness can dispel emptiness. Pine, bamboo and flowers can satisfy the scholar’s taste. The bonsai reflects the essence and rules of the world. “A gentleman must choose between good and bad objects to reflect his taste. The place where he lives is set in ancient scriptures and history, among the famous calligraphy and painting, and he spends the day and night wandering among the famous calligraphy and painting. ” A few years ago, I accidentally got a pair of blue and white small cups but accidentally broke one of them. Since I could not bear to abandon it, I repaired it using a traditional technique. After mending it with natural materials such as flour, lacquer, and tile ash, the cup was reborn after a few months. The shapes of bamboo’s branches are strange and interesting, and the bamboo knots grew into natural shapes. That is why bamboo branches are very suitable for use as scholar’s desk ornament.

Jiangang Su (born in 1974), graduated from Changshu Institute of Technology in Arts and Crafts. He specializes in traditional Chinese painting, calligraphy and seal carving. In the 1980s, he studied under Mr. Yan Gongda, a famous calligrapher and seal carver. Su is also an experienced art educator. His works are collected internationally and appear in the private collections of many art institutions and galleries. In 2017 he served as the Art Director of the Canada 150th Anniversary International Tea Festival. Su is a member of Jiangsu Calligraphers Association, the Suzhou Calligraphers Association, and is a senior registered Teacher of China.
